How to Install Docker Latest on Centos 7

In this tutorial we will show you how to install docker latest version on Centos 7. For you dont know docker, docker is containers that wrap a piece of software in a complete filesystem that contains everything needed to run: code, runtime, system tools, system libraries – anything that can be installed on a server. This guarantees that the software will always run the same, regardless of its environment. Not like virtual machine, docker is lightweight and dont overhead the CPU process. Using docker you can deploy your needed application without worrying about different environment in the Operating System.


This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of linux, know how to use the shell, root user or non-root user account with sudo privileges set up on your server.


Official Centos 7 repository don’t have latest docker version, we will get the latest and greatest version from the official Docker repository.

But before doing that we need to update yum package database

Run this command below , it will get script from official Docker repository and execute immediately

After installation has been done , start docker service using systemctl

Verify that it’s running:

If docker running normally , you should get output like these

And for make docker run automatically after server reboot

You can check current docker version using this command below
